Below are the three courses we offer, we recommend everyone looking at starting in the world of IPL or Laser completes the COK level 3-4. This course as well as theory and practical is included with every Eclipse machine purchased or leased.

‘CORE OF KNOWLEDGE’ LASER USER – LEVEL 3&4

Introducing the Online Laser Training distance-learning course as a ‘Core of Knowledge’ (CoK) training module to provide you with a fundamental understanding of laser and light technology, how light interacts with skin to produce specific biological effects and how to use laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) safely. It also covers relevant standards and regulations governing their use in a professional setting in different jurisdictions.

The best training courses available in NZ, Heres why:

  • The only courses available in NZ approved by the BMLA (British Medical Laser Association)
  • The only courses in NZ  designed by an RPA2000 certified laser protection adviser
  • The only courses in NZ awarded international accreditation to leading industry standards
  • The only courses recognised by leading industry related insurance brokers

Before you look at starting IPL Training make sure the course you are attending is approved and you recieve accrediation at the completetion, not just a certificate.

In New Zealand it will soon be mandatory for all Laser and IPL operators to demonstrate competence by providing evidence of training in best practices for Laser/IPL safety to AS/NZS 4173: 2004 and any updates, additions or amendments to that standard.

Already part of the Auckland City Council’s Code of Practice, many other councils and regional health authorities will be implementing this standard as mandatory for any provider of Laser and Pulsed light treatments as part of their own Health & Hygiene bylaws.

This Level 3 and 4 course meets this standard.

The training video will be provided for you to study the course materials in detail (i.e. workbooks) and complete the online multiple-choice assessments at the end of each section.

The learning outcome is an independently accredited, nationally recognised, Level 3&4 Award to the named student. This online course is worth 3 learning credits (which is equivalent to a notional 30 hours of learning). Typically, the course takes 2 days to complete.

EACH COURSE IS BASED ON NEW ZEALAND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

LASER PROTECTION SUPERVISOR / LSO – LEVEL 4&5

This more advanced course is intended for experienced laser / IPL operators who are responsible for supervision of all light-based devices in the establishment. The entire Level 4&5 module is divided into the same 4 units as the Level 3 course with strengthened Assessment Criteria and Assessment Evidence.

A deeper understanding of the content of the Laser User Core of Knowledge training video and workbooks is required to answer the more challenging multiple-choice assessments at the end of each section. Additional downloadable workbook material is also provided to assist you with independent study and critical assessment of laser safety requirements in your establishment.

You will be required to provide evidence of completion of a recognised Core of Knowledge / Laser User course (either completion of the OLT Laser User course or a scanned copy of a recognized Core of Knowledge / Laser User course completed within the preceding 3 years. In addition, you will submit a developed set of Local Rules or Working Rules / Radiation Protection Plan (in AUS/NZ) for the specific device(s) used in the learner’s establishment, complete a choice of 4 independent written tasks from 11 possible tasks and a randomly selected written Assignment by OLT.

The learning outcome is an independently accredited, nationally recognized, Level 4&5 Award to the named student. This online course is worth 3 learning credits (which is equivalent to a notional 30hrs of learning). Typically, the course is expected to take 1 – 2 weeks to complete depending on the practical experience of the learner.

NB. You must take the Laser User course before attempting the Laser Safety Supervisor (LSO) course. Both diplomas use the same student resource course material and presentation but the assessments for the Laser Safety Supervisor assessment are longer and more challenging.

LIGHT BASED HAIR REDUCTION – LEVEL 3

Introducing the new ‘must have’ course for beginners in laser or intense pulsed light (IPL) hair reduction who have already completed ‘Core of Knowledge’ certificated training in laser safety. It includes relevant skin and hair anatomy and physiology. The course is broken down into three units of learning followed by multiple-choice questions which you must complete before moving on to the next section. A training video supported by a detailed workbook is provided to assist the learner.
